How to save on second house heating

9 June 2017

I would like you to pay attention to this testimony, about the problem of heating in the second house.

Below, the letter from a customer who reports his experience with Calorstone radiant panels heating system:

“I am a CASA&CLIMA reader: two years ago I red an article about new infrared rays electric heating system

I found the subject very interesting, and after reading i started doubting some prejudices (not only mine) about the costs of electric heating systems.

My wife and I have a flat at the mountainside, where we refuge almost every week end to escape from job stress; in winter we passionately spend our days skiing, and in summertime we like taking it easy while walking on the trails that cross the woodland. The only negative note of this amazing refuge is the heating cost. Our flat is in a 3 floors building, built in the 80’s, heated by a diesel furnace. In winter, to have the flat warm on Friday evening, I had to program heating system to switch on on Thursday evening (24 hours to reach 19/20°C); on Saturday and on Sunday the sistem used to keep warming to keep the temperature.

This way, with our diesel furnace we used to spend approximately 2,00€ / hour. It was too much, so we started looking for alternative solutions to limit heating costs. The first idea was a pellet stove, but the flat is at the third floor ( there is no elevator, so i should lift sacks by stairs), and inside there is not much room to store pellet sacks. The second idea was a ventilated fire set, but we have no exaust pipe, besides room to store wood and we had to lif wood to the third floor.

Once I red the article on CASA&CLIMA I started searching informations about electric solutions, both on the internet and in some shop: I met a new world, and above all I discovered that radiant panels are subdivided in two main categories: the old generation ones, sold in big malls, esthetically uglies and with a high energy consumption (1200/1500/1800 watts each), and the new generation radiant panels. These last ones, still little known and not easy to find, are much finer to see, and above all have very low energy consumption combined with a very high caloric yeld.

  1. Particularly, I met Calorstone, a new brand by a historical firm in Piemont, the only one creating marble radiant panels: esthetically beautyful (more than heating items they look like furnishing objects), and with a very high caloric yeld. To heat my small flat I was suggested to install 3 panels (1 by 600 watts in the sittingroom, 1 by 600 watts in the bedroom and 1 by 300 watts in the bathroom); I installed them and I completely got free from the diesel system, gettimng independent.

This year, at the end of the winter, I could reckon my consumption , comparing to the past: I was amazed to verify that I spent 0,40 €/hour instead of 2,00 €/hour (1,5 kw power absorbed by three panels, multiplied for 0,25€, the cost of energy on the bill).”

We find this letter very interesting for the numbers our customer provides, which demonstrate application and savings got by Calorstone electric heating solutions.
